The issues explored in the papers will feed into the conference, with discussion on a number of provocative questions raised in the plenary and strand sessions.
The first paper, Reforming leadership development…again, was published in March. Based on interviews with our members and other health leaders, this paper explores two important questions: what are the real issues with NHS leadership, and what solutions can best be provided by central or regional action? To coincide with the launch of the paper, and ahead of the first meeting of the Department of Health’s new Leadership Council, we hosted an expert roundtable with NHS chief executive David Nicholson on the diagnosis of the underlying issues with NHS leadership.
A further three papers will be published between now and the conference in June: medical leadership (early April), leadership for innovation (late April), and talent management (May). A fifth paper on local partnership working will be published at the conference itself.
Make sure you have your say on the important issue of NHS leadership. Join the discussion at www.nhsconfed.org/leadership where you can read and comment on the papers. NHS Confederation members will also receive the papers by post.
